Turning unused spaces into feel good spaces
We're on a mission to transform The Oracle into a sanctuary of serenity and beauty. Our goal? To help you reconnect with the wonders of our town and nature – and even find tranquility in the hustle of everyday life.
Leading this transformation is incredible global artist and local legend, Curtis Hylton. His latest mural transforms the temporary hoarding of the old House of Fraser store into a vibrant celebration of local birds and blooms.
Titled "Reading River Birds," it celebrates the natural splendor of Reading, with birds found on the Thames and Kennet rivers. From the Mute Swan and Greylag Mallard, to the Canada Goose and Kingfisher.
Each bird in the mural is beautifully composed of flowers like Roses, Magnolias, and Irises, reflecting his unique artistic style.
But that’s not all. Look closer, and you'll see iconic Reading landmarks hidden in the mural, including The Blade and the distinctive features of the Oracle itself, like the riverside circular building and pedestrian bridge.
But this is just the beginning. We'll be creating more spaces over the next few months that don't just look good – but feel good too. Spaces where you can step away from the digital buzz and soak in the beauty of art and nature.
It’s Curtis Hylton’s only local piece of art, so don’t miss the chance to see this renowned artist’s work in our hometown!
Head to the old House of Fraser store to take a closer look while you can!
